MCHS Volleyball Claims Win in Season Opener After suffering a 25-23 loss in the opening set, the McDonald County High School volleyball team outscored the Gravette Lady Lions, 75-45, in the final three sets to claim a 23-25, 25-10, 25-20, 25-15 win in its season-opening match on Aug. 31 at Gravette High School. Cross Country Teams Run In Season Opener The McDonald County High School boys' and girls' cross country teams opened their season on Aug. 29 at the Carthage Warm-Up, held at Joplin South Middle School. Lady Mustangs Claim Season-Opening Win Good pitching, solid defense and timely hitting will win a lot of high school softball games. First Sport Scrimmage Since Late February For the first time since the end of basketball season in late February, on Aug. 21, a McDonald County High School sports team took the field against an opponent from another school. Opinion OPINION: Vote Your Convictions I haven't watched even a minute of the DNC convention. Melody didn't think it would be good on my blood pressure or our television (in case I decided to throw something at it) for me to watch any of it. Now, that's not to say I haven't read or heard news stories on what was said. I just didn't waste my time watching it. OPINION: Life Erosion The motivation for this tale came from my granddaughter, Sarah. As I now recall, it must have been six or seven months ago when my recollections of the "good old days" became too monotonous and tedious for her to endure, so she asked a question which I was quite willing to provide an answer for. "So what was so great about those days; those days when you were young?" There it was, the question for which I thought I had an abundance of answers. OPINION: We Know The End I'm not quite sure which has been worse to endure over the last few months, the pandemic or the disintegration of our political system. Both are beyond disturbing, but, with the pandemic, there is at least some hope that there could be an end at some point in time.
